Winter Wonderfest keeps community promise with $10,000 donation to Delaware State Parks

December 23, 2016

The success of Winter Wonderfest's first year of fundraising is already being felt by the community it was designed to support.

"Winter Wonderfest is still taking place through New Year's Day, but we didn't want to wait to start sharing funding," said Executive Producer Peter Briccotto during a recent $10,000 check presentation to officials of Delaware State Parks. Cape Henlopen State Park is home to the Light Spectacular - a two-mile car tour featuring over 60 unique light displays.

The presentation was hosted by Santa at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal Dec. 16. "The many dedicated people of the parks have made it possible for Winter Wonderfest to help thousands of visitors create new holiday memories at the Delaware beaches," said Briccotto, who noted that Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation was an earlier beneficiary of $3,000 from money raised at the Light Spectacular, and Christmas Village located at the ferry terminal.

"This is just the beginning," says Briccotto. The Festival of Cheer Inc., which oversees Winter Wonderfest, is committed to creating grants to benefit nonprofit organizations throughout Sussex County. "The money we raise here will support many needs right here in Sussex County."

This week the Christmas Village is open Thursday and Friday, Dec. 22-23 from 5 to 9 p.m.; the Light Spectacular from 5 to 10 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 24-25, the Light Spectacular will also be open from 5 to 10 p.m.

Beginning Monday, Dec. 26, both activities are open every day all week long, through and including New Year's Day night. For ticket information, go to www.winterfestde.org.
