Woman fatally shot in Ocean View
A woman was shot and killed Oct. 21 in Ocean View, and a Maryland man has been arrested in connection with her homicide, police say.
The shooting happened at 4:21 a.m. in the 30000 block of Bethany Crest in the Bethany Crest development, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
When police arrived at the scene, Fournier said, they found a woman, 55, who had been shot. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Jason Meredith, 40 of Hebron, Md., had fled in a vehicle, and police sent out a description of his vehicle to surrounding police agencies in Maryland and Delaware.
Within 10 minutes, Fournier said, a deputy with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle driving erratically westbound on Route 50 in the area of Tilghman Road. The deputy continued to follow the truck to a residence in Hebron, where Meredith was taken into custody without incident by Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police. Meredith was arrested by the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office on an out-of-state fugitive warrant and he is being held in the Wicomico County Detention Center until he can be extradited back to Delaware, Fournier said.
The woman’s body was transported to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science were an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause and manner of death. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
