Women’s club members learn about volunteer program for foster children

May 14, 2022

The GFWC DSFWC Women's Club of Indian River recently held its monthly meeting at the Indian River Yacht Club with guest speaker Lauren Brueckner from the Court Appointed Special Advocate program for children in foster care.

Brueckner spoke about how to join and what CASA is about. This state-run program supports abused and neglected children, and youths experiencing foster care in Delaware. Trained members of the community are appointed by a Family Court judge to be a voice for these children in court proceedings. She gave a variety of examples of how the CASA volunteers can impact the children’s welfare. A new 30-hour training program starts in June, and volunteers are needed. Those interested can contact Bruckner at Lauren.brueckner@delaware.gov.

The Women's Club of Indian River meets on the second Monday of the month; for details, call 302-947-2640.
