Women’s Club of Milton contributes to COVID-19 response

May 27, 2020

In order to assist with the COVID-19 pandemic response, the Women’s Club of Milton recently provided PPE supplies and donated funds for food for local families in need as part of its community contributions.

In March, the club donated its supply of booties/shoe coverings to Beebe Healthcare. In case of inclement weather during its annual Milton Holiday House Tour, the club maintains a supply of shoe covers. Since the weather had been relatively pleasant for the past two tour dates, the club had 1,840 booties, or 920 pairs, on hand. Club member Elaine Carbone, who came up with the idea, called Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes, to find out if there was a need. In turn, Lopez contacted Beebe representatives who said they would like to have the shoe covers. The booties were picked up and placed in a central location in the hospital to be distributed as needed.

In April, the club donated $1,000 to the Milton Community Foundation to help those in need due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The foundation has been using donations to purchase and distribute food gift cards to local families impacted by the pandemic. To date, more than150 $75 Food Lion gift cards have been distributed.  An additional 109 $20 gift cards were sent to the Harry K Foundation to be included in the backpacks of the Milton kids who get a daily meal from them.

To donate, mail a check payable to the Milton Community Foundation with a notation of COVID-19 Relief to: Milton Community Foundation, P.O. Box 12, Milton, DE 19968, or go to

During this difficult time for so many, club members recognize the needs of the Milton community and urge others to donate as well, if at all possible. Club members are grateful to the community that supports its fundraising efforts, enabling them to make donations like these.

The Women’s Club of Milton is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, one of the world’s oldest and largest women's service organizations dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service. Each club sets its own agenda, and works on projects and programs that address the specific needs of its community.
