Worcester Prep students take agriculture and wildlife field trip

November 29, 2022

Worcester Preparatory School’s first-grade class learned about local agriculture and wildlife on recent field trip to Groundworks Farm in Pittsville, Md., and Trap Pond State Park in Laurel.

Groundworks Farm uses a community-supported agriculture model, also known as farm sharing, providing direct connections between the customer and farmer. First-grader Eleanor Brown’s family owns and manages the operation. During their time on the farm, the first-graders picked and tasted snap peas, and harvested carrots. After picking the carrots, students learned how they were washed and prepped to take home.

Following their visit to the farm, the class stopped at Trap Pond State Park in Laurel. They visited the nature center and participated in the Tracks and Trace program, learning to identify clues certain animals leave behind to determine if those animals are present in that area.
