Workers are expected to begin work on a $424,000 rehabilitation project on Milton’s Chandler Street water treatment plant starting Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Contractor KMT Mechanical will be upgrading the plant’s electric system, generator, chemical feeds and testing equipment, and leveling the concrete floor.
The project is the last of three major water infrastructure projects to get underway that were approved in a January 2024 referendum. The other two projects are the ongoing $3.8 million 500,000-gallon water tower next to the Rails to Trails on Federal Street and a $1.78 million water main replacement project at Carey, Walnut, Magnolia, Reed and Mill streets. Terms of the state loans are for 20 years at a 2% interest rate, with interest-only payments during construction.
Meanwhile, Artesian and the town’s water department are working through the month of January to finish installation and paving of new water and wastewater lines on Tilney Street. Artesian is anticipating opening its new Sussex Regional Recharge Facility on Route 30, which will treat Milton’s wastewater going forward, before summer.
