Renovations have begun on the new home of Uncle David’s Ice Cream in Rehoboth Beach. When complete, it will be operated by Boardwalk Buddy Walk participants.

The business is named after David Samson, who served as the original inspiration for the Boardwalk Buddy Walk, which was created in 2006. The annual event supports families, promotes community involvement and encourages a lifetime of opportunities for people with Down syndrome. Samson, who died in 2018, is the brother-in-law and brother of Boardwalk Buddy Walk founders Dennis and Sharonlee Diehl.

The new ice cream shop is located at 237 Rehoboth Ave., which is the home of Just Comfort Shoes. In addition to her role with Boardwalk Buddy Walk, Sharonlee also owns the shoe store. To make room for the ice cream shop, the shoe store’s footprint will be cut in half.

Boardwalk Buddy Walk Executive Director Jim Watson said it’s an exciting time, and the plan is to be open by the end of May.
