A man working on the construction site for the new Dewey Beach Town Hall is in critical condition Oct. 20 after contacting an electrical line, officials say.
Assistant Town Manger Jim Dedes said he was driving to work about 8:50 a.m. when he first saw emergency responders in the area of Route 1 and Rodney Avenue. A press release sent by the town states a member of a concrete crew was working on the third floor of the structure when they made contact with an electrical line using a concrete float. The line runs along Coastal Highway adjacent to the building.
Dewey Beach police arrived and got the victim to the first floor where members of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company and Sussex County Emergency Medical Services gave him medical care at the scene. Dedes said he was responsive at the time. The man was then transported to McKinley Avenue on the bayside, where he was transferred to a Delaware State Police Aviation Unit helicopter and airlifted to Christiana Medical Center in critical condition.
