Xi Sigma member honored for 60 years of service
The Xi Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi recently presented Barbara Henriksen with the Founder’s Award, congratulating her on 60 years of membership and commitment to sorority. The chapter also honored Henriksen for 60 years of perfect attendance, presenting her the traditional yellow rose and a basket of her favorite goodies.
In 1995, Henriksen transferred to Xi Sigma Chapter from Alpha Chi in Bowie, Md., when she and her late husband retired to Rehoboth Beach. Henriksen has a son and two grandchildren, and recently welcomed a great-granddaughter.
She continues to be very active in her community, working at Wharton’s Garden Center, and volunteering at Epworth United Methodist Church in the soup kitchen and with dinners for international student workers. She also volunteers at New Life Thrift Shop and Cape Henlopen Food Basket.
Henriksen chairs the Xi Sigma service committee and serves on the ways and means committee. Beta Sigma Phi is an international women’s organization aimed at encouraging friendship, education and community service.
