Yarn & Bone pet supply expands to Milford and Georgetown

February 25, 2023

Local pet supply business Yarn & Bone has opened new locations at 644 North DuPont Blvd., Milford, and 6 College Park Drive, Georgetown.

Yarn & Bone offers all-natural dog and cat food, treats, supplements and toys, as well as small animal and reptile essentials. Select locations also offer pet grooming and self-serve wash stations, fully equipped with raised tubs, shampoos, towels and force dryers.

With staff who have a passion for natural pet health, all locations host monthly events highlighting local rescues, training classes, photo ops and sales, and pet health education.

Yarn & Bone owners Michael Morris and Matthew Moorefield began their business journey thanks to their chocolate lab Bella, who had serious IBS issues. Instead of resorting to medications and pills that would just mask the issues, they got down to the cause of her digestive troubles by looking at her diet. After doing lots of food and diet research, they headed to their local pet stores to find a food that would help Bella heal from the inside out. Unfortunately, that was a bust, as they found many pet foods sold in local stores were made for the pet parents' convenience rather than the pet’s health. Labels were very hard to read, marketing was misleading, and it was hard to tell what was actually good for Bella. This inspired them to create Yarn & Bone Pet Supply, and take the guesswork out of the question, “Is this good for my pet?”

The first Yarn & Bone opened in Camden in 2015, with a small selection of natural pet foods and treats, self-serve wash stations and pet grooming. After growing a large client base through great customer service, competitive pricing, event hosting, sampling and services, the business relocated to its current larger location in Camden Town Center in 2021. The owners also opened a second store in Dover which includes their in-house Mad/Fox Bakery.

As they noticed their home-delivery customers were expanding toward the Milford area, Bridgeville and beyond, the owners set their sights on heading south.

“We are excited to bring locations to our southern Delaware customers who have been using home delivery or driving all the way to our Dover and Camden locations when they want to shop in store,” said Morris. “Our goal is to offer the best options and prices with friendly customer service, creating a great experience for customers and their pets. We are looking forward to continuing to grow our offerings of in-store events and partnering with other local businesses throughout the state. Hosting pet parties and events is in our DNA, so we want to create an atmosphere of being the destination spot for pets of all kinds. We see more growth in the coming years to serve even more of Delaware’s pets and their parents.”

Upcoming events at Yarn & Bone stores include Easter egg hunts, adoption events, puppy classes, nail trim clinics, arts and crafts for pets, its annual Woofstock event and more. For more information, go to Facebook and Instagram.
