Zwaanendael Club awards School of Nursing scholarships

March 6, 2021

The GFWC Zwaanendael Women’s Club sponsors a scholarship annually for a nursing student who has achieved academic excellence in their first semester at the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing at Beebe Healthcare.

This year’s scholarship recipient is Erin Bendler of Rehoboth Beach. A graduate of Livingston High School in New Jersey, Bendler holds a degree in human services from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree in social work from Rutgers University. After a few years employed in social work, she made the change to nursing. She said, “I’m one of the older people in the class but very happy with my decision to pursue a medical career. It’s a much better fit for me.”

Bendler said she hopes to work in the operating room and become a certified registered nurse first assistant. She said she is very appreciative of this financial support as it will help her accomplish her goals and reduce financial stress that she and her husband are experiencing due to her husband’s businesses being closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The GFWC Zwaanendael Women’s Club, a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, is a nonprofit corporation whose members are public-spirited women serving and improving the community.

The Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing at Beebe Healthcare is the only hospital-based nursing program in Delaware and is accredited by The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
