"Cape Proud" of Anna Frederick

CHEF
December 19, 2015

Anna Frederick graduated from Cape Henlopen High School in 2013 and headed to Temple University loaded with a lacrosse scholarship and a desire to pursue a degree in early childhood education.

Anna, a lifetime Rehoboth resident attended Rehoboth Elementary School and later joined her father, the then vice principal, at Beacon Middle School.

Today, her family ties are still directly connected to the Cape District.  Her father is the current principal at Beacon and her grandfather, Dave ”Fredman” Frederick was a longtime teacher at Cape and still covers sporting events for the Cape Gazette.

When I asked Anna how she felt about having her father being omnipresent in her educational experiences, she instantly answered that she felt that was positive rather than negative.

In fact, both of Anna’s parents helped forge her pathways to success, she credits them as the biggest influence in her life.

When she was at Cape, many of her most memorable moments were on the playing field. Anna was a part of 6 state championship teams in both lacrosse and field hockey. While on these teams, earned an all-state selection three years in a row.  Anna also was named a US Lacrosse All-American as a senior and received an honorable mention as a junior.

In addition, Anna reached a major milestone as a young athlete becoming the first person at Cape Henlopen High School, male or female, to score 200 career goals in lacrosse.  The lacrosse team record in her four-year career was a staggering 69-3.

Anna broke numerous records in her junior year, including most goals scored in a game and most goals scored in a season (81)

Anna led the CHHS team to the DIAA state title all four years.  She also lettered for three years in field hockey, helping lead the team to a pair of state titles. Her amazing athleticism did not end with one sport, Anna was also named second team all-state in field hockey.

Although Anna was nationally recognized for athletics, during her tenure at CHHS, she was also a member of the honor society and she excelled academically.

Anna sat out the last lacrosse season for the Temple Owls due to injury; however she is looking forward to potentially starting this spring.

Her drive continues in college.  Anna’s grades allowed her the opportunity to be recognized on Temple's Director's Honor Roll for a second year in a row for having a GPA of 3.0 or above.

She is thoroughly enjoying her time at Temple University.  Truthfully, athletics and Temple University have been on the forefront for Anna and her entire family since her grandfather played football at Temple in the mid 1960's.

For Anna Frederick, the future is full of opportunity. Certainly, this young lady is a shining example of everything that makes us “Cape Proud”.  As a community, we cannot wait to see what the future holds for the talented Anna.
