CHHS Fall Athletes Hold PBS Assembly for Milton Elementary

Cape Henlopen School District
November 28, 2017

Students at Milton Elementary School got an exciting reward before Thanksgiving break to celebrate the good choices they have been making in the classroom over the last few months. As part of the Positive Behavior Support Program (PBS) Dr. Conaway, Principal at Milton Elementary hosted a Pep Rally for the kindergarten through fifth-grade students. The PBS program helps students improve their social skills such as self-control, self-esteem, self-respect, self-motivation, conflict resolution, cultural diversity awareness, and acceptance. Teachers and administrators are able to reward their classes over a period of time as their students earn points for following the class and school rules.

At the start of the assembly student-athletes from Cape Henlopen High School, along with the Viking mascot welcomed the elementary students to the gym. Once they were seated, each of the fall sports showcased some of their skills, so that the students could learn about a few of the athletic opportunities that would be offered to them in the future. The high school field hockey team also brought with them their State Championship trophy which garnered lots of cheers from the students and the staff.

At the start of the day, Milton Elementary students were able to submit their names into a drawing specific to each sport. During the introduction of the teams, if that student’s name had been selected, they earned a chance to try out that sport with the CHHS athletes. For some, this was their first time trying out a new sport, and for others, it was something that they had played before. All of the student participants did a wonderful job and their classmates cheered everyone on throughout the assembly. Everyone at MES is looking forward to the next PBS assembly!
