Championship Day for Delaware Shore Indoor Leagues

In the elementary division championship game between Queens and Belmont Abbey, Cora Hershelman scored in the first half to give Queens the 1-0 halftime lead. Madelyn Harrington tied the game with her goal late in the second half to pull Belmont even. The opening round of the tie breaking shoot out procedure saw Harrington score to give Belmont the lead but Hershelman scored on the last attempt to again make it a tie. The first shooter for Queens missed in the sudden victory round but Harrington came through to give the championship to Belmont.

The middle division championship game was a near repeat of the elementary division game. Talia Scerra scored on a penalty stroke to put Swarthmore up midway through the first half. Late in the second half, Michaela Furman score, also on a penalty stroke, to tie the game with 2:12 remaining. In the opening round of the shootout, Presley Bebout put Swarthmore ahead and after a miss by F&M, Addison Cook put Swarthmore up by two goals. Nina Schrader then score for F&M to pull within one but Swarthmore got a goal from Nali Werner to go up 3-1. Lorilyn Marsch scored to pull F&M within one goal after a miss by Swarthmore. After a miss by F&M and another miss by Swarthmore, Bristol Brown scored to even the shootouts for F&M.

In the sudden victory round, F&M missed on their attempt but Bebout came through with the goal to win the championship for Swarthmore.

Congratulations to all the teams for an excellent afternoon of indoor hockey. Now onto spring high school sports before our summer training and summer league start off on Monday, June 5th.
