With the bounty of red, white and blue adorning The Circle in Georgetown, the throngs of traffic heading to the beaches and all of the excitement wafting through the air, it can only mean one thing.
Summer has arrived in coastal Delaware!
Yes, it’s finally Memorial Day Weekend at the Delaware beaches and that means the beginning of the Summer of 2016. This is always an exciting time of year, as the anticipation that’s been building for weeks and months is finally over and the summer season in coastal Delaware can finally begin.
As festivals go, Memorial Day Weekend is not exactly the busiest time of the year. But these next few days are all about the beaches coming back to life for another great season of fun in the sun in coastal Delaware.
There’s so much to do this time of year at the Delaware beaches, but the actual height of the festival season won’t come until several weeks down the road. That being said, there are a few annual events on tap for this weekend, both here in coastal Delaware and just across the state line in Ocean City, Md.
We also encourage you to check out the Freeman Stage, which has an abundance of quality entertainment scheduled for the season. And keep up to date with all that’s going on in the area, not only here at theoldfathergroup.com, but also with your local chambers of commerce and/or visitor’s bureaus.
For this holiday weekend, get out and enjoy your favorite local restaurant. Take the kids to FunLand or to the water park. Settle in and listen to your favorite band, or enjoy the laser show in Ocean City.
And don’t forget to remember our veterans and military personal on Monday, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy life here in the United States, including the holiday weekend we're about to enjoy.
Memorial Day is about much more than a three-day weekend, which we should always keep in mind when enjoying the extra time off from work.
Whatever you choose to do this holiday weekend, kick off the Summer of 2016 in style and have a great time, but also remember the true meaning of Memorial Day.
While here this weekend, if you want to work in a festival or a fun annual event into your schedule, we have some good choices for you here in this week’s “Weekender Blog,” as always brought to you by the Oldfather Group of Ocean Atlantic Sotheby’s International Realty.
Here are some to consider over the next few days:
Horseshoe Crab & Shorebird Festival (May 28). This 13th annual festival is scheduled for Milton Memorial Park and celebrates horseshoe crabs and migrating shorebirds, two mainstays of coastal Delaware’s animal world. Activities at this fun yearly festival include boat rides down the Broadkill River, canoe trips on Prime Hook Creek, a scavenger hunt, music, food, exhibits, train rides for the kids and trail walks at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge.
