Here's What's Happening the Weekend of June 3-5 in Coastal Delaware
Good day everyone, and let us be among the first to officially welcome you to theSummer of 2016! Now that Memorial Day has come and gone, we can all settle in for the season and enjoy the great things that make coastal Delaware such a great place to live and work.
There are some great events on tap for this first weekend of June, and we hope you’ll take a little time to check out your favorites. It probably comes as no big surprise that, with the advent of the summer season and the arrival of more warm and sunny days, many of these events are outdoors and/or focused on the water and the beach.
But before we get into our favorite events coming up in the next few days, a few honorable mentions for the weekend:
- To celebrate the beginning of the new summer season, state officials have announced that entrance fees for all Delaware State Parks will be waived on Sunday, June 5. So enjoy any of Sussex County’s great state parks FOR FREE this Sunday.
- Interactive tours of the Lightship Overfalls have begun for the summer season and will continue every Thursday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., until after Labor Day. Be sure to check this one out when you get a chance. You won’t be disappointed.
- If you feel like taking the short drive over to Laurel, check out this weekend’s Broad Creek Bike & Brew event, featuring four separate bike courses and an after party with chicken barbecue provided by Abbott’s Grill and beer provided by Dogfish Head.
To be sure, there are lots of fun things going on this weekend in southern Delaware. So get out and enjoy the beginning of the summer season.
Now, on to the business at hand. Here are our top choices for the weekend of June 3-5, brought to you as always by the Oldfather Group of Ocean Atlantic Sotheby’s International Realty:
Southside Shootout Skimboarding Competition (June 4-5). Some of the world’s best skimboarders will be in coastal Delaware this weekend for the pro/am competition at Delaware Seashore State Park. The Sussex County event is the second stop on the United Skim Tour, and conditions on the south side of the Indian River Inlet are considered to be some of the best in the world for skimboarding. Other events during the weekend include an art show and musical performances at Hammerheads.
