Spring Color Clash

Common are the photos of the male cardinal in the snow. But cardinals are living among us all year. Maybe they are just less noticeable with all the other colors around during spring. This red cardinal is sitting on a native redbud tree screaming at my cat for walking under the tree.

By the way, Wikipedia says: The species was named by colonists for the male's red crest, reminiscent of a Catholic cardinal's biretta.

Many people also talk about a cardinal representing a loved one who has passed, and when you see one it means they are visiting you.

  • Photography grounds me and elates me. I am inspired by nature and its perfection. I see things that compel me to take a photograph, things that are ordinary, or small and go unseen by others. This is my purpose as a visual story teller. See my work in the Beach Paper and the Cape Gazette, or visit my website denyhoweth.com.
