Voyage to Well-Being

In early March we set sail on the Holistic Holiday at Sea, an 11-day Caribbean Cruise with nearly 2000 other health conscious guests. What an incredible opportunity to learn from over 45 of the world’s most dynamic and experienced leaders in lifestyle medicine and holistic health in a beautiful and relaxing environment plus the chance to visit captivating, historic ports of call every few days.

Our 100% Vegan Cuisine with no added oil was available in elegant dining rooms as well as in the ship’s buffet. We appreciated the creativity of the vegan chefs and bakers, but longed for more simple fare like baked potatoes, plain black beans and fresh blueberries! While delicious, the food was loaded with sodium. Evidence? EDEMA!  I have never had that problem, but at the end of every cruise day, I suffered from severely SWOLLEN ANKLES! And I was not alone as I heard from dozens of guests who experienced the same condition. (Note to cruise chefs—SOS (Salt-free, Oil-free, Sugar-free is an important part of the Voyage to Well-Being!)

Highlights of the cruise included the amazing experience of hearing from and literally rubbing elbows with visionaries and “rock stars” in the Plant-Based movement! How about hugs from Will and Madeleine Tuttle, lunchtime conversations with Nelson and T. Colin Campbell and sharing laughs and recipes with the Esselstyns! We were so impressed by the quality and depth of current research shared by these luminaries as well as by our long-standing favorites, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Michael Klaper, Dr. Ron Weiss, Dr. Brenda Davis and the many others who are working on the cutting edge of animal advocacy and nutritional education in medical schools worldwide.

To our delight we met many like-minded friends who share the overriding message of the Holistic Holiday at Sea:  EAT WHOLE FOOD PLANT-BASED and GET ANIMALS AND ANIMAL PRODUCTS OFF OUR PLATES AND OUT OF OUR LIVES FOR THE SAKE OF PERSONAL HEALTH, ANIMAL WELLBEING, AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY!
