John Henry McQuay, worked at dad's market

March 7, 2016

John Henry McQuay, 74, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

He was born Feb. 22, 1942, son of the late Alice Beatrice Langrall and William “Butch” McQuay.

John enjoyed spending time with his dog and best friend, Capt. Will, participating in the Punkin Chunkin with Trey Melson, calling bingo at AMVETS Post 22 in Long Neck, and talking to family and friends every day. He would recall every car he ever owned, what size engine it had, and how fast it would go 0-60 MPH. He enjoyed telling stories of his childhood and working at McQuay’s Market in Rehoboth for his father Butch.

John brought a brightness and happiness into every room he entered, telling stories and making jokes. His positivity in life, even in his later days, was unparalleled.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” McQuay; sister Beatrice Marshall; and his best friend, Trey Melson. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Ann Brittingham; and grandsons, Joshua Alan Sharp and his wife, Cortney, and Nicholas Alan Sharp, of Milton.

Services will be held at Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, Thursday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a graveside ceremony at Henlopen Memorial Park on Coastal Highway in Milton.

A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the AMVETS Post 22 in Long Neck, following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the John J. McQuay Memorial Fund, 28443 Paynter Road, Milton, DE 19968.
