Sussex Emergency Services celebrates 25th Anniversary
Sussex County Emergency Services celebrated its 25th Anniversary May 14 at the CHEER Center in Georgetown. Launched initially as the Sussex County Paramedic Service, the first unit rolled into service in January 1991 with just 10 members.
Today, Sussex County EMS is a 110-member-strong force with 11 units that provide critical, life-saving care within minutes of each call. Numerous past and present SCEMS medical directors, paramedics, county officials and other local dignitaries who have played a role in the organization’s development the past 25 years were on hand to share their stories and provide a retrospective of Sussex County EMS from the beginning, its accomplishments, and rise to a nationally recognized urgent care program.
