Special children's program set June 9 at Garden Shack Farmers Market
At the Thursday, June 9 Garden Shack Farmers Market, the Sussex County Master Gardeners will be performing Peter Rabbit’s Misadventures in Farmer McGregor’s Garden, an educational puppet show. They will do two performances, at 3 and 4 p.m. Each show is typically 30 minutes or so, depending on how much the children share with Peter Rabbit about the foods they like. The shows will be held on the lawn behind the chicken yard, across from the greenhouses.
In their version, not quite Beatrix Potter's, Peter Rabbit loses his vegetable money to Ripley Rat and Ripley tells him that Farmer McGregor is giving away vegetables, but that's not true. From Farmer McGregor, kids learn about how vegetables are grown and the parts that are eaten. Then they talk with Peter Rabbit about the vegetables they like and how they are prepared.
Along the way a beautiful butterfly and a busy bee fly in to talk about what they do as pollinators. Finally, will Farmer McGregor catch Peter Rabbit and have bunny burgers for dinner? The show is for all ages. Some chairs will be provided, but feel free to bring a towel or mat to sit upon.
In addition, the Sussex County Mobile Library will be on-site from 2 until 3 p.m. Check out some books, check out the puppet show, and then enjoy shopping at over 25 vendor booths, followed by dinner from one of the food trucks and a dessert of ice cream, shaved ice, or sorbet. Garden Shack Farmers Market is held every Thursday from 2 until 6 p.m., and is located at 19884 Beaver Dam Road, Lewes.
