We were disappointed by the misleading headline attached to a letter to the editor in last Friday’s edition (“Dewey Beach Parking Nazi Strikes Again”). The attention-grabbing headline suggested that the Town of Dewey Beach had done something improper, when in fact the towing incident occurred on private property and had nothing to do with the town and government of Dewey Beach.
That the Cape Gazette chose to highlight the letter, enlarge the font on the headline and include the offensive term “Nazi” worsens the slight against our town. What makes this all the more troubling is that the Town of Dewey Beach has been working harder than ever to improve its parking situation and to avoid towing. We’ve clarified markings, taken steps to clear the public right of way where most parking occurs and have lowered parking fines.
The Cape Gazette is a great local paper and typically reports the news from our town in a balanced and constructive manner. Applying an inaccurate tabloid-style headline to a letter about a condominium association’s policies was a poor choice that we expect will not happen again.

Criticism of public figures is permissible. Endorsement letters for political candidates are no longer accepted. Letters must be the author’s original work, and may not be generated by artificial intelligence tools. Templates, form letters and letters containing language similar to other submissions will not be published.
