Willard John Thomson Jr., DelDOT retiree
Willard John Thomson Jr., 82, of Greenwood, passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at Bayhealth, Milford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rising Sun, Tuesday, Oct. 24, 1933, son of the late Willard John Thomson Sr. and Elizabeth (Hutchins) Thomson.
Mr. Thomson worked a lifelong career for the Delaware Department of Transportation as an assistant highway director from which he retired in 1992. He was an avid volunteer, dedicating 50-plus years to the Bridgeville Kiwanis where he was past president and secretary. Mr. Thomson also was a member of the Society of Professional Engineers and was a past member of the Greenwood School Board.
In his free time, Mr. Thomson enjoyed staying active in bowling, softball, baseball and the Greenwood Little League which he cofounded. Together with his wife, they traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, South America and Australia creating memories of a lifetime. Mr. Thomson was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and dear friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Thomson is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Virginia Thomson; his son, W.J. of Smyrna, Ga.; his brother, Roger Thomson and his wife Ruth; his two nieces: Debbie Thomas and her husband Marion and the Rev. Maleia Rust; his nephews: Robbie Marvil and his wife Debbie, Everett A. Marvil and his wife Amy, Tommy Thomson and Dale Rust and his wife Jill; and his brother-in-law, Leon Rust of Greenwood.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow the services at St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood.
