Delaware Correction Commissioner Phelps to address SDARJ Aug. 29

Delaware Department of Correction Commissioner Perry Phelps will speak at the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice meeting to be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Trinity Faith Christian Center, 15516 New Road in Lewes. The newly appointed commissioner will talk about what he expects to accomplish to advance the department's mission and tackle its top priorities. He will also address criminal justice reform.

Phelps has had a career in corrections since 1988. He has served the State of Delaware in the capacity of correctional officer, sergeant, lieutenant, security superintendent, deputy warden, warden, bureau chief of prisons and deputy commissioner. He is also an adjunct instructor at Wilmington University. Phelps earned his associate degree from Delaware Technical Community College in 1994 and his bachelor's and master's degrees from Wilmington University in 2004 and 2005, respectively.
