Carvel Ice Cream grand opening set at Moe's Southwest Grill July 16
When the owners of Moe’s Southwest Grill, located along the southbound lane of Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach, take on a new endeavor, they like to go big.
That’s why full-sized celebrations are already scheduled, Moe’s spokeswoman Koh Morrissey said, to welcome the addition of a Carvel soft-serve ice cream stand at the southwest grill Saturday, July 16.
Carvel additions to the menu include sundaes, soft-serve cones and cups, milkshakes and even an option to “make-it-a-meal” with Carvel’s offerings.
“For added fun, Chuckles the Clown will entertain us all by making cool balloon figures for the kids,” Morrisey reported, “And Carvel’s mascot, Fudgie the Whale, will be there too.”
From noon to 2 p.m. she reported organizers are planning to give out free ice cream to everyone who attends the celebration. Radio station Eagle 97.7 is expected to broadcast live for the event and organizers have planned family-friendly activities for everyone while they enjoy the ice cream.
Owner Jim Morrisey said celebrations are in order for the event because out of more than 400 Moe’s locations, nationwide, the Rehoboth Beach location is only the second Moe’s location to offer Carvel soft-serve ice cream in addition to the regular menu offerings.
“We’re bringing Carvel back to the customers,” Jim said. “It’s bringing two concepts back to the customer that work synergistically,” he said of the Mexican grill and soft-serve desserts.
Milton resident Scott Skelly brought his two young sons in for lunch and had ice cream with them afterward. Skelly said ice cream is a welcome addition to the kid-friendly menu as he ate his hot fudge sundae.
“It’s a good addition of something that goes well with a casual sit-down meal,” he said. “It’s refreshing for the beach.”
Moe's Southwest Grill with Carvel Soft-Serve Ice Cream is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday and until 7 p.m. Sunday. They are located at 19266 Coastal Highway in the Safeway shopping center. For details contact 226-4266 or go to www.moesde.com.
