Boardwalk Builders partners with MERR Institute to support marine conservation

November 13, 2017

Boardwalk Builders raised $750 for the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute at its donation drive during this year's Boardwalk BBQ.

Boardwalk hosts a party every summer to express its appreciation to clients, trade partners and friends. This year, they added a fundraising component to the celebratory event. Each guest was asked to bring a friend to the BBQ, and for every friend who attended, Boardwalk donated $25 to MERR.

MERR is a local nonprofit dedicated to the conservation of marine mammals and sea turtles along the Delaware shore. They provide rescue and care for ill and injured animals, as well as conducting education and outreach programs.

"We are so thankful for all the hard work that MERR is doing in marine preservation," said Boardwalk Builders owner Patty McDaniel. "The ocean is such a huge part of our lifestyle here on the Delaware Coast, and it's so important that we support organizations like MERR who play a vital role in protecting its ecosystem."

An informational booth and slideshow at the BBQ allowed guests to learn more about MERR programs and services.

"Educating the public about marine conservation, and making them more aware, and even helping them develop a care and an interest about marine life is a big piece of what we do. So we were happy to have the opportunity to do that at the BBQ," said MERR Executive Director Suzanne Thurman.

At the end of the BBQ, Boardwalk presented MERR with a $750 donation to support the organization's program initiatives and rescue efforts.

"It was a wonderful donation and we couldn't have been happier. Being a nonprofit, we depend on donations and community support," said Thurman. "It's thanks to good-hearted people like Boardwalk Builders that help us to keep going."

Boardwalk Builders is committed to giving back to the community by supporting local organizations and looks forward to future partnerships. For more information on MERR or to donate visit www.merrinstitute.org.
