Community members fill Thanksgiving baskets, restock food bank at Cape High

November 23, 2017

The GFWC Zwaanendael Women's Club of Lewes held a fall food drive to replenish the Cape Henlopen High School's Food Bank and fill Thanksgiving baskets for in-need students and their families. It was a great success thanks to The Harry K Foundation, Giant Food in Rehoboth and the many community members who helped fill the collection box at Lloyd's Market in Lewes.

Over 1,000 pounds of food were collected and 20 turkeys were purchased by The Harry K Foundation, which works to defeat childhood hunger in Delaware. Bob Suttmiller, Giant Food manager, generously applied the store's Thanksgiving special to all 20 turkeys.

CHHS Food Bank is available to students who need help supplementing their basic food needs, and it is supported in part by the ongoing GFWC Zwaanendael Women's Club Community Improvement Project. Kathy Ruth, food drive coordinator, said, "Our goal is to ensure students can concentrate on their studies without having to worry about where they will get their next meal."
