Rehoboth to open recycling center in June
Rehoboth Beach will open a new recycling center on Oyster House Road on June 1.
City Manager Sharon Lynn said logistics are still being worked out, but the facility would be open to Rehoboth residents and businesses only, Wednesday through Sunday. Lynn said the facility would be staffed and gated. The building is the former city carpentry yard, which was being used for storage.
Mayor Paul Kuhns said residents have been asking for a recycling drop off center since the city moved the recycling bins from the parking lot at City Hall. The bins were moved in part to make way for the new parking lot at City Hall, which was reconfigured for public parking.
The city has a recycling contract with Blue Hen Dispose-All, free for residents, but pickup is only on Fridays. Kuhns said the center will give citizens an option in addition to the Friday pickup date.
City spokeswoman Krys Johnson said the city received a $24,000 grant from Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Division of Waste and Hazardous Substances. She said hours of operation for the center will be announced soon.
