Cape tennis racks wins over Seaford, Milford

The 7-2 Cape boys defeated visiting Milford 4-1 April 24, while the girls downed the Lady Bucs 5-0 in Milford.

Milford’s Riley Wolfenden defeated Noah Brozefsky 6-4, 6-0 at first singles. Cape’s Henry Clampitt won at second singles over Milford’s Gunner Folks 6-4,  6-7(4-7) 11-9. Third singles player Uly Slagle defeated Matthew Stangl 6-3 6-2.

Sam Luciano-Solomon and Colby Dominick defeated Milford’s Jordan Tribett and Sam Rauch 7-6, (7-2)  6-0. Ghe Vikings gained a point at second doubles as the Bucs defaulted the match.

The Cape girls moved to 7-1n on the season with a 5-0 shut out of the Bucs. 

Cape’s Maryann Tietbohl defeated Summer Davis 6-0, 6-3. Yuxin He downed Milford’s Jasmine Wright 6-2, 6-3 at second singles. Third singles player Melanie McCloy downed Milford’s Jessican Gabriel-Perez 6-4, 6-1. 

Marcella Sabbagh and Alyssa Spell defeated Milford’s Olivia Cromer and Alina Bashkirova 6-2, 4-6, 10-2 at first doubles. Taylor Smith and Anna Harrington defeated Milford second doubles team of Emily Sylverster and Lauren Becton 6-2, 6-2.

Cape scores wins over Seaford

The Cape boys’ tennis team netted an April 23 5-0 victory over visiting Seaford.

Cape’s Noah Brozefsky defeated Seafod’s Spencer Mandible 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 at first singles. Henry Clampitt topped Shawn Dornenberg  6-0, 6-1 at second singles, and Uly Slagle took a win at third singles with a 6-1, 6-0 match over Seaford’s Kevin Berduo.

Sam Luciano-Solomon and Colby Dominick beat Seaford’s Jhordan Hernandez and Jordan Gootee 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles, while Cape’s Dylan Kaplan and Luke Gladfelter downed Jorge Mendez and Jaretd Diaz  6-0, 6-0 at second doubles.

The girls’ squad traveled to Seaford and played to a 5-0 win over the Blue Jays. They are 6-1 on the season.

Cape first singles Maryann Tietbohl defeated Seaford’s Lega Dinga 6-1, 6-1. Yuxin He downed Seaford’s Abigail Covey in a tough three-set match 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8), and third singles player Melanie McCloy defeated Jamileth Garcia 6-0, 6-0.

Cape’s first doubles Marcella Sabbagh and Amanada Sponagle and the second doubles team of Taylor Smith and Anna Harrington defeated Seaford’s teams 6-0, 6-0.

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
