Gallery One in Ocean View recently announced a new art show, Inspired By..., which will be open to the public from Tuesday, Aug. 30, to Monday, Oct. 3.
For this show each of the 16 gallery artists will show a work with a written statement explaining the inspiration for the piece.
A remarkable sand sculpture created by Randy Hofman is the subject of Rina Thaler’s watercolor, “Inspiration.”
Thaler relates how she encountered Randy working on one of his biblical scenes on the beach. “He was kneeling in front of his sculptures, working. It looked like he was praying, and even more striking was his shadow, which was so prevalent it looked like it was praying back.”
The spirit or love of a place or objects has intrigued several of the Gallery One artists. In “Afternoon Light, Wilmington Ave.,” a pastel with gouache, Laura Hickman relates that the light of late afternoon filtering through trees as people strolled the avenue struck her as a special beauty. Lesley Mc Caskill painted a watercolor, “Communion,” of a lovely pond that has many birds and ducks. McCaskill has painted this spot many times. The quiet and abundance of wildlife are what continually draws her there.
Joyce Condry created “Sonoran Sunset,” a lively mixed media piece where she pays homage to the warmth of Arizona with shades of orange and yellow offset by the cool blue mountains in the distance.
Dianne Shearon’s love for flowers is displayed in her lovely watercolor, "Summer Time Beauties,” a soft, delicate rendering. For Dale Sheldon, who volunteers weekly at the farmers market, the fresh flowers and peaches are captured in her acrylic “Summer Colors.”
Working with a dynamic teacher stimulated new, exciting works for two artists. Jeanne Mueller credits working with British artist Roger Dellar, who encouraged her to work looser, producing “Times Square in the Rain.” This impressionistic piece accentuates the reflected lights of the city on the wet pavement. After a workshop with John Baylis, Fay Kempton said she was reinvigorated to tackle new subjects with intricate details. Kempton is showing a beautiful watercolor titled, “John B’s Apples.”
