MUGS & Stitches now open in Milton

Custom monogram shop embraces new location in Historic Milton
May 9, 2018

MUGS & Stitches, a custom embroidery and monogram shop, has officially opened at its new location in Milton. After being in business for over 30 years, starting in Rehoboth, then moving to Lewes, Owner Gwen Palmer has embraced the new location located at 113 Union St. Palmer, who is also the owner of Cape Henlopen Wicker which is located right next door to MUGS & Stitches, has brought her 30 years of experience in the industry to an expanding Milton business sector.

Palmer has watched her business and other business grow in the years she has been operating both stores, starting with the original location in the Rehoboth Mall, then moving to Penny Lane in Rehoboth then to Second Street in Lewes, and now officially calling Union Street in Milton home to both businesses.

"At MUGS & Stitches we are going to continue to deliver the highest quality monogram and embroidery work that we have provided for years. Fate has brought us to Milton, and I am excited to offer our services to the community, local businesses, and various organizations. Opening a few weeks ago at our new location has been very exciting, and we love that we are able to showcase both stores on such a historical part of Milton surrounded by amazing businesses and historic buildings such as the Milton Theatre. Like any business, you must start small, and with the support of this amazing community we have grown throughout the years. I can't thank all the customers enough for taking this journey with me and my family," said Palmer.

This custom monogram shop allows patrons to customize a vast array of different apparel, blankets, headwear, gifts for babies, keepsakes, piggy banks, pet-related items, stuffed animals and much more. "I will embroider and customize anything that I can fit on the machine," said Palmer when asked about the different options the store offers. MUGS & Stitches has done custom merchandise for not only community members but also organizations such as customizing lifeguard uniforms, working with Lewes in Bloom, Lightship Overfalls, Factory Fusion Sports and various schools and businesses throughout the Eastern Shore.

Quantity is not an issue, as Palmer can complete orders from simply one piece to much larger purchases. The store also offers a wide variety of thread colors, fonts, placement options and more to help truly customize a specific item. "I take care in making sure that all the aspects of these designs are fulfilled correctly down to the last detail [font, color, placement, orientation, etc.]. When I first started, I was told that you are not an embroider until you stitch yourself. Striving for excellence and execution lead me to find out that they were right, but it never stopped us from delivering our products that are customers fell in love with. Trial and error is truly the best way to perfect an artform," added Palmer.

MUGS & Stitches offers high quality work that is all designed from scratch, working directly with the customer to create or alter a design to best suit their needs. "We offer family shirts, in which we customize members of the family with their names onto apparel, and it is amazing to say that I have had these items come through my hands multiple times to add to names and embroidery," said Palmer when asked about the relationship she has built with customers who have frequented her store. The business also offers retail items that were designed by Palmer, such as Milton hats that are on display in the front window along with projects that showcase the work that is put into this craft.

This business is open year-round and is always there for custom needs. Information regarding both MUGS & Stitches as well Palmer's other business Cape Henlopen Wicker can be found on their respective sites, or stop in to see the offerings. Palmer has also constructed a separate site for baby items: www.littlegiftiesfromgwen.com.
