Cape Region golfers perform at Delaware Open

Golf pro Braden Shattuck of Concord Country Club played three great rounds to win the 2018 Delaware Open July 31 at Heritage Shores in Bridgeville.

Several Cape Region golfers also played well in the state’s top golf tournament. 

Jay Whitby of Rehoboth Beach Country Club tied for sixth, and teaching pro Chris Krueger of Kings Creek Country Club tied for eighth. RBCC assistant pro Chris Gray finished in 11th place, one stroke ahead of Michael Rushin of Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club.

Heritage Shores assistant pro Will Scarborough finished in 15th place, with assistant pros Bryce Young of Bayside Resort and Blake Micholas of Kings Creek CC tied for 16th. Assistant pro Greyson Rossi of Bayside Resort tied for 19th, followed by Jakob Keidel in 22nd and assistant pro Michael Chanaud from Bear Trap Dunes 23rd.

RBCC members Ed Brown finished in 26th and Noah Moss tied for 31st. Tanner Leonard of Bear Trap Dunes tied for 36th, and assistant pro Ian Madinger of Plantation Lakes finished in 39th place.

Brockstedt competes at U.S. Kids World Championship

Congratulations to Sawyer Brockstedt for her performance in the 2108 U.S. Kids World Championship, held Aug. 2-4 on the famous Pinehurst No. 3 course in North Carolina. It was her biggest tournament thus far.

Competing in the girls’ 11-year-old group, Brockstedt shot 3-over par total for a 12th-place finish in the 36-hole tournament, featuring more than 155 junior golfers from all over the world.

Rehoboth Beach CC Ladies Club Championship 

The Rehoboth Beach Country Club Ladies Club Championship took place Aug. 7-8, with the golfers competing overall and in two flights.

Britny Whitby won the overall Club Championship, with Christina Harvey taking second. 

Jeanne Allen won the first flight net, with Suzanne Moore making the best gross score. Daisy Hudson took second net.  

Karen Storms won the second flight in both net and gross categories. Gina Bergin took second net. 

First Tee of Delaware fundraiser tournament Sept. 4

The First Tee of Delaware will hold its third annual Delmarva Scramble fundraiser tournament Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Bear Trap Dunes GC in Ocean View. 

The range opens at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The $125 per player/$500 per foursome entry fee covers breakfast, range, cart, luncheon, prizes, and a putting contest. Hole signs are available for $100.

First Mulligans Pointe Member-Guest 

Mulligans Pointe in Georgetown held its very first Member-Guest tournament July 28-29. Five flights of golfers competed, with flight winners advancing to a shootout for the overall championship. 

Brian Hayes and Pat Jelinek won the first flight, while Scott Lanham and Dave Zorb won the second flight. Darly Calhon and Lance Mears won the third flight, while Bob McVey and Sam Moncure won the fourth flight. Josh Huss and Jamie Davis won the fifth flight.

Lanham and Zorb won the shootout for the overall championship. 

RBCC holds Ladies Solheim Cup

Rehoboth Beach CC held its annual team competition Solheim Cup tournament Aug. 1.  

The Osprey team won the 2018 edition. The winning team members were Britny Whitby, Daisey Hudson, Joan Crowley, Kim Stockson, Gina Bergin, Karen Storms, Kathy Carroll, Gayle Truitt, Jeannie Lindsay, Sharon Emerson, Cyndy Simeone, Carol Perry, Ann Cunningham, Carol Wetherhold, Jullie Burton and Jeanne Allan.

Local club competition results

The Kings Creek CC Ladies 9-Hole group played a team 2, 1, 1 game Aug. 8. Two best net scores are used for the par 3s, and one best net score is used for the par 4s and 5s.

Sue Eisenbrey, Susan Epstein and Trish Galioto won first place. Galioto also won closest to the pin on the 17th hole.

Jeanne Drake, Mary Mezger and Janie O’Connor took second place. 

The Kings Creek Ladies 18-Hole group played their 2, 1, 1 game Aug. 9. Gale DiBona, Kathy Casey, Arlyce Dubbin and Dawn Dupre won first place. Katie Heintz, Lisa Schofield, Dennis Sills and Sue Griesemer finished in second. Third place went to Deb Ward, Tricia Ritthaler, Debbie Grant and Joanne Yurik.

The Rehoboth Beach CC Ladies 9-Hole group played a net team scramble Aug. 8, won by Lynn Kokjohn and Joan Dathe.

Lynn Runsten and Karen Schneiderman finished in second, and Rosemary Farley and Julie Lewis took third.

The Mulligans Pointe Ladies 18-Hole group played a Lean on Par game Aug. 7. This format drops the players’ highest four scores back down to par.

Maxine Ansbach won first place, with Sue Ahern in second and Brenda Lewis in third. 

The Kings Creek CC Ladies 9-Hole group played a team Cha Cha game Aug. 1. For the odd-numbered holes, the teams used one best net score, and the two best net scores on the even-numbered holes. 

Tina Brown, Kara Bourdreau and Linda Miniscalco (blind draw) won first place. Carolyn Horn, Shirley Maloney and Linda Miniscalco took second. Sandy Neverett won closest to the pin on the seventh hole.

The Mulligans Pointe Ladies 18-Hole group played a Putts and Par 3s game Aug. 14. Maxine Ansbach won first place, followed by Sue Ahern in second and Retta Rose Frampton in third.
