Giving thanks for Fresh Air families

November 25, 2018

This November, the Fresh Air Fund thanks families in Delaware for opening their hearts and homes to Fresh Air children. Each summer, thousands of children from New York City’s low-income communities visit suburban, rural and small-town communities along the East Coast and Southern Canada through The Fresh Air Fund’s Friendly Towns Program. Those who volunteer as host families for summer 2019 can keep the spirit of Thanksgiving in their homes throughout the year.

“My family is a third-generation host family. When Leonel visits, we love watching the fireworks, boating, going to the movies, and swimming at the beach,” said Juliette Abadir of Union County, N.J., a Fresh Air Fund host mother for six years.

Fresh Air children are boys and girls who live in New York City. Children who are reinvited by host families may continue with the Fresh Air Fund through age 18 and can enjoy extended trips. Volunteer host families frequently share how they rediscover the beauty of their own communities through the eyes of Fresh Air children.

Fresh Air children also participate in year-round leadership and educational programs. For more information about hosting a Fresh Air child next summer, contact B.J. Ellis at 302-259-5601 or go to www.freshair.org.
