Farm Credit Foundation grants $10K for Mobile Ag Lab
The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement has made an investment in the youth of Delaware through a $10,000 grant to the Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation earmarked for the Mobile Ag Lab.
The grant will be used for operating costs for the Ag Lab and the truck which takes it to locations across the state to present programs to elementary school children. The Ag Lab has reached more than 10,000 children since it was put in service in 2014.
A special presentation was made Dec. 6 at Delaware Farm Bureau’s annual banquet in Dover by Walter Hopkins, chair of the Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement. Hopkins said, “This is a great opportunity to show our appreciation for all that Farm Bureau does for ag education. With this money, that can continue into the future.”
DFB Foundation Manager Laura Simpson said, “The Ag Lab is a traveling classroom that serves to educate young people about farming and agriculture. It is a fun, educational tool that allows kids to see the different aspects of agriculture and try it out for themselves. It is because of sponsors like Farm Credit that our ag lab is able to continue to teach children about the importance of agriculture, healthy eating, how their food gets from the farm into their lunchboxes, and farming as a viable career choice.”
The Ag Lab is available by reservation to elementary school classes in the new year at a cost of $1 per child. Requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, contact Laura Simpson at 302-697-3183.
