SAS swimming downs Dover

The Sussex Academy girls’ swim team moved to 5-0 on the season with a 113-42 win over Dover Jan. 8 at the Sussex Academy Aquatic Center. The boys went to 4-1 with a 102-43 victory over the Senators.

The girls’ 200 medley relay was won by Sussex Academy’s Tess Mariner, Nina Criniti, Emily Trout and Sam Oliver with a time of 2:14.9. The 200 individual medley was won by Ellen McKay in 2:32.38. Lindsay Guida took top honors in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.49. Trout took the 100 butterfly in 1:13.73. Mariner won the 100 freestyle with a 1:02.64. Sydney Mundok took first in the 500 freestyle in 6:51.73. The 200 free relay was won by Criniti, Lily Isabella Sharpe, Caly Fajardo and Kathryn Donati with a time of 2:05.7. Stephanie Gomez won the 100 backstroke with a 1:21.71.

The Seahawks boys’ squad of Lex Johnson, Mack Lionhartt, Jackson Basile and Tyler Burger took top honors in the 200 medley relay with 1:39.27. Cole White won the 200 free with a 2:17.74. Ty Hudson won the 50 free with a 26.08. He also won the 100 free with a 1:01.32. Tom Hudson won the 500 free with a time of 6:32.38. The 200 free relay was won by Grant Thomas, Gannon Webb, Ty Hudson and Basile in 1:51.26. Lionhartt took the 100 back with a time of 1:13.33, while Berger took first in the 100 breast in 1:14.87.

“This was our first meet following intensive training over the holiday break,” said SAS coach Tom Martiner. “It gave us a clear indication for what to do heading into our championship season in order to all perform to our best. Our most difficult meets will be in rapid succession at the end of January. I have no doubt that we will be able to show our true mettle.”

The Seahawks return to the home pool to take on the Salisbury School on Thursday, Jan. 10.
