The 2019 Henlopen Conference champion girls’ basketball team recently held its end-of-season awards banquet at the Crooked Hammock in Lewes.
Head coach Pat Woods praised his players for reaching 11 of 13 goals set for the season. The only goals they failed to reach were to play at the Bob Carpenter Center and win the DIAA State Championship.
He also gave special kudos to his seniors Lexi Watkins and Niya Mosley.
Abbey Hearn and Dania Cannon were named first-team all-conference. They were also named two of the top 15 downstate players. Mehkia Applewhite was named the second team. Lexi Watkins received honorable mention.



Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
