Delmarva Improv Group to perform in Millville April 12-13

It will be raining comedy in April at the Dickens Parlour Theatre when the energetic Delmarva Improv Group performs its live stand-up comedy and improv show at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13.

The group’s performance is similar to the popular television show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” with Drew Carey. The cast will entertain audience members and use their input to develop funny scenes off the cuff. “We’re excited to invite comedy to the Dickens, especially now that we all need a good laugh, given all the political mess we hear on the news every day,” said Cheryl DeBois, theatre manager.

The cast consists of four professional entertainers. Stevie Jay, a local favorite emcee and host entertainer, is a business developer at Community Integrated Services, emcee and account manager at Triple B Entertainment, and a former bartender at Bethany Blues of Bethany.

DJ Magellan is a well-known disc jockey around Delmarva, and a radio DJ and producer at Ocean 98.1 WOCM. He can be seen at all of the biggest events in town and works at Seacrets in Ocean City, Md., among other venues.

Ruthie Parramore, the sole female, is well known in the area from Ruthie’s Bethany Bakery, as a former best bartender at the Starboard in Dewey Beach, and as hostess at Bethany Blues, 99 Sea Level, Parkway and more. She’s performed in many productions at Dickens and has done stand-up with Ronnie Dove.

Bob Kemp is best known as the wacky white guy on the commercials for Holly Kia, where he sells cars for a living in Selbyville. He was a professional actor in Los Angeles and Miami, and has performed in five different shows at Dickens.

The group began performing two months ago to sold-out crowds at Mio Fratello in Fenwick Island, where they continue to perform every other Friday night. For adults only, the comedy is unfiltered and raw.

Created by Stevie Jay, the show is a hit and brings much-needed laughter to the area. “It’s promoting the good old-fashioned belly laugh,” said Parramore. “Each show is a completely different show where we are utilizing various improv scenarios and rotating stand-up comedians,” said Jay.

Shows run for about 2 hours with a 15-minute intermission and a meet and greet after the performance. Doors open at 7 p.m. The address is 35715 Atlantic Ave., Millville. Tickets are $20 per person.
