Rachel Mary Adda Hudson Pusey, “Rachel” as everyone knew her, passed away in the care of her family, hospice, and the staff of Bayhealth Sussex Medical Center in Milford, Wednesday, May 22, 2019.  She was a talented, well-loved woman who made a great impression on all who knew her.

Rachel was born March 25, 1936, to the late Edward James and Hazel Mary Webb Hudson near Selbyville.  She married Merrill James Pusey Sept. 29, 1953, and together they raised three children.  Rachel was very involved in the community, active in politics, and went to work for the state and the Sussex County governments, serving in the Prothonotary’s Office, and then became Deputy Recorder of Deeds, retiring in 2002.  She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and held many offices over the years serving in the church, including being senior warden of the vestry.

Rachel also was instrumental in the founding of the Christian Storehouse, which has been of great service to people in need in the Millsboro area for many years.   She remained a very active person: talented in tailoring, interior decorating, coordinating formal teas. Rachel also worked at Watson Funeral Home as a hostess and receptionist.

She is survived by her children: Desiree Iris Pusey of Millsboro, Dawn P. Conaway (Gary) of Seaford and Merrill Joe Pusey (Maryanne) of Milford.  She has five grandchildren: Lacy Farmer, Garon Conaway, Erika Conaway, Schyler Conaway and Mekaela Pusey; as well as two great-grandchildren: Logan Farmer and Chase Michael Farmer.  Rachel’s surviving siblings are sisters Jennie L. Caudill and JoAnn Mitchell; and her brother Virgil Hudson.  She was preceded by siblings Robert J. Hudson, Betty J. Hudson and Vernon Hudson.  Also surviving is her special friend, George M. Hampton.

A time of visitation and calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. till noon, Thursday, May 30, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro.  A memorial service will be held immediately following at noon.  The Rev. Gerald Richards will officiate.

Interment will be private, with the family only, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to either St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Kitchen/Office Refurbishment Fund, P.O. Box 422, Millsboro, DE, or to the Christian Storehouse, P.O. Box 239, Millsboro, DE.
