Sidelines: NBA finals begin

May 31, 2019

Basketball

Finally! The Golden State Warriors will play the Toronto Raptors to determine a champion. Golden State is a significant favorite to win again and complete a three peat.

This is the fifth consecutive finals appearance for Golden State. That has only happened once before with the Boston Celtics of the 50s and 60s.

Toronto is also making history of their own. This will be their first time in franchise history making the finals. I’ll be cheering for them to pull off the big upset, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Baseball

The Phillies are continuing their good play and are now in first place in the National League East division. Bryce Harper is starting to contribute a lot on offense which should take some pressure off of first baseman Rhys Hoskins and shortstop Jean Segura. I hope they can keep this up.

Cape sports

There is a lot of local Cape sports to touch upon right now too. The Cape baseball team has made another, somewhat surprising, run to the semi-finals to try to defend their state championship from last year. This was not expected to happen because of the group of seniors they lost last year. Keep it going guys!

And congratulations to the girls’ lacrosse team as well on their truly amazing 11th consecutive state championship!

The boys’ lacrosse team made it to the state finals this year as well. They had a very impressive season. I hope they can accomplish their ultimate goal this weekend. I am definitely a proud Cape alum!

See you on the sidelines!
