The Rev. Silvester S. Beaman to speak Oct. 30 at Mt. Zion in Ellendale

The Rev. Silvester S. Beaman will be the speaker for the first Trustee/Steward Day at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30, at Mt. Zion AME Church in Ellendale.

Beaman, a native of Niagara Falls, N.Y., earned a master of divinity degree at Boston University, where he was awarded the Outstanding Preacher and Bible Reader Award.  He was awarded the doctor of divinity degree for Meritorious Achievement in Christian Ministry and Public Service March 13, 2004, by Richard Wright Theological Seminary in Evanston, South Africa.

Beaman has served as pastor at Bethel AME Church in Lackawanna, N.Y.; St. Paul AME Church in Hamilton, Bermuda; and currently serves at Bethel AME Church in Wilmington. Since his time at Bethel Wilmington, he has taken in over 2,000 members.

Beaman’s commitment to ministry is evident in his creation of many new ministries including the AIDS Task Force, Men’s & Women’s Ministries, mentoring programs for youth, Senior Citizen Ministries, and a Community Evangelism Outreach Program. In 2000, the church incorporated Beautiful Gate Outreach Center Ministries, a full-service provider to individuals who are living with HIV/AIDS and their families. This ministry is internationally recognized and has been featured on CNN News.
