Sussex Consortium holds ceremonial beam-signing

July 2, 2019

Cape Henlopen School District officials held a ceremonial beam-signing at the new Sussex Consortium on Sweetbriar Road in Lewes June 17.

The steel beam is located in what will be the school’s pool area. While the beam will not be visible once construction is complete, the notes and of encouragement and well wishes from those who attended will forever be a part of the new building.

Cape Director of Special Projects Brian Bassett said it was the third beam-signing the district has held in two years.

“We’re very excited about the opportunities the new Sussex Consortium will provide students from throughout Sussex County, and the beam-signing is a way to represent how close to the finish line we are with the project.”

Cape Superintendent Bob Fulton said the beam-signing is a special way for the district to commemorate its new buildings.

“The board members and administrators in attendance have made a positive impact on our district and in the lives of the Consortium students,” Fulton said. “We look forward to seeing the program’s continued success for many years to come in their new facility.”

The Sussex Consortium will open to students in the winter of 2020.
