Lewes/Rehoboth eliminates Milton in District 3 major league play

The Lewes/Rehoboth Major League All-Stars eliminated Milton 14-11 in the District 3 tournament July 13 at the Millsboro Little League complex.

They were led by Patrick Donahue’s three home runs, each off a different Milton pitcher and each to a different part of the field. He drove in seven runs in the game.

“Patrick really sparked the team with his offense," said Lewes/Rehoboth coach Stephen Kosc.

Chase Resnick went 2-for-3 with a double and triple, knocking four RBIs. Miles Godwin and Lawson Whaley went 2-for-3, while Brady Kosc, Trent Kauffman, Tripp Gannon and Maddox Rineer each delivered a hit.

Godwin started the game on the mound, throwing 22 pitches and striking out three. Brady Kosc came in from the bullpen and struck out three. Donahue recorded two strikeouts in relief. Jameson Tingle and Matt Brittingham both faced five batters to close the game.

"I’m happy to see we got the bats rolling,” said coach Dwight Tingle. “I keep telling my boys, ‘There is nothing to be scared about. It’s kid vs. kid.’”

"The Milton team is very familiar to us,” said Lewes/Rehoboth manager Matt Brittingham. “A lot of these kids play together in various sports. We knew this might be one of our toughest games and thought it would be a shoot-out. Milton's coaching staff and players are a very talented and class act."

Milton’s Colby Jester started on the mound, while Amari Jackson and Clayton Peters both pitched in relief.

Trey Hitchcock went 4-for-5  with two singles, a double and a homer. Jase Mitchell went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. Mitch Joseph was 1-for-3 with a double, while Clayton Peters had a single. Noah Wells went 1-for-3 with an inside-the-park homer that scored three Milton runs.

Lewes/Rehoboth defeated Nanticoke 3-1 July 12. 

Resnick went 2-for-2 with a single and double, while Donahue went 1-for-2 with a double, Matthew Brittingham went 1-for-3 with a single and Jameson Tingle went 1-for-1 with a single and walk. Donahue, Tingle and Norton all scored.

"We knew we were going to need to rely on our pitching, and try to manufacture some runs against the two talented young men they threw at us today,” manager Matt Brittingham said. “Our pitching came through, and we advance to the next round.”

CJ Norton started on the mound, striking out four. Brady Kosc came in from the bullpen and struck out five. Austin Dostal come in to close out the game, picking up six strikeouts.

Lewes/Rehoboth defeated the Laurel All-Stars 9-4 July 14 to stay alive.

Trent Kauffman started on the mound, striking out nine. Godwin struck out four Bulldogs batters in two innings of relief.

Godwin went 3-for-3 at the plate with a homer, single and double. Brady Kosc went 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Kauffman was 1-for-3 with a double, while Tripp Gannon slammed a single. Dostal delivered a bases-loaded single to clear the bags.

Lewes/Rehoboth was looking to advance to the championship round when they faced Georgetown at 7 p.m., Monday, July 15. Lower Sussex is waiting for the winner.
