RBHOA thanks outgoing commissioners

September 19, 2019

This week, the terms of two long-serving city commissioners will come to an end. The Rehoboth Beach Homeowners’ Association would like to thank Stan Mills for his 12 years of service and Toni Sharp for her six years of service on the commission. Both have been strong voices for homeowners and made many contributions to RBHA over the years.

Stan Mills distinguished himself as “Mr. Infrastructure” in Rehoboth Beach. He has been instrumental in Boardwalk reconstruction, stormwater management, and handicapped access on public ways and beach crossings. In addition to chairing the city’s beach and Boardwalk committee, Mr. Mills was instrumental in the board adopting a nonsmoking policy for the city’s beach, Boardwalk, Bandstand and parks.

Commissioner Mills was responsible for giving the public greater access to support documents for meetings, audio recordings of meetings, and the inclusion of video technology in the plans for the new City Hall. In addition, he wrote the “City News” section of our newsletter, contributing his in-depth knowledge of the issues directly to our members.

Toni Sharp has been a champion of public opinion research, more communication with citizens, and long-range financial planning. She has proven to be a great listener, using her thoughtful and deliberative style to build consensus among her fellow commissioners.

Sharp often attended RBHA board meetings as part of her goal to hear as many viewpoints as possible on a broad range of issues facing the commissioners.  In turn, we benefited from the information she would bring back to us not only from mayor and commissioners meetings, but numerous other committee meetings she attended.

We appreciate that Commissioners Mills and Sharp have favored controlled growth rather than rampant development, and have continually focused on our environment, sense of place and quality of life. These two commissioners may be off the commission, but we hope they are not stepping away from public life entirely. We hope to see them both involved in city committees in the future.

For now, we simply say thank you so much for your leadership and commitment to Rehoboth Beach over many years.
