Karl R. Taylor, retired truck driver

Karl R. Taylor, 82, of Dagsboro passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. He was born in Washington, D.C., April 10, 1937, son of the late George and Marie Taylor.

Mr. Taylor was raised in Silesia, Md. He began his career as an independent owner and operator of his own trucking company. He later went on to serve as a truck driver for 18 years with Giant Food based out of Landover, Md., before retiring Dec. 1, 1998.  He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed gardening, cutting grass and working on anything with an engine. He gained most pleasure when he spent time with his family and rescue pets. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his brother, George C. Taylor Jr.; three sisters, Celeste Schmidtt, Audrey MacIntyre and Elizabeth Dennison; son-in-law, Michael Carroll; and his dear friend, Elizabeth Dennison. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Mae Taylor of Dagsboro; son, Robert K. Taylor of Selbyville; daughter, Karen A. Carroll of Dagsboro; two grandchildren, Kevin and Krista Carroll; longtime family friend, Eric Fatzinger; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m., at Beacon Baptist Church, 32262 Beacon Baptist Road, Millville.  A viewing will be held Monday, Oct. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, 34874 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View.  Burial will follow the services at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Taylor's name to the American Cancer Society, 1315 Mt. Hermon Road, Suite D, Salisbury, MD 21804, to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Suite 101 Newark, DE 19713, or to the SPCA, 22918 DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.
