Charles W. Kelley, retired welder
Charles W. “Chuck” Kelley, 75, of Millsboro, formerly of Newark, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at Beebe Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Kelley was born May 2, 1936, in Newark, son of the late James and Sarah (Hindes) Kelley. He was a graduate of Newark High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Chuck was employed with Potts Welding in New Castle, with 20 years of service before his retirement and move to Millsboro.
He was an avid poker player, enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, boating and traveling. Mr. Kelley was a member of the Indian River Yacht Club, AMVETS Post 2 in Long Neck and the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Douglas Kelley and Richard Bell; and four siblings, James, Richard, Gladys and Grace Kelley. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Mary E. Kelley; five children, Bruce (Gail) Kelley of Smyrna, Charlotte (Tom) Wood of Lexington Park, Md., Catherine Murdoch (Bill Stewart) of Florida, Bill (Kathy) Bell of Lewes, and Linda (Daniel) Blevins of Middletown; two sisters, Rose (Bob) Alexander of Newark and Anna (Bud) Reynolds of Chesapeake City, Md.; 12 grandchildren, Michael Wood of Smithville, Texas, Kayla Rodriguez of Santa Rita, Guam, Daniel Kelley, Christopher Kelley and Rachel Kelley all of Newark, Amanda Nichols of Waterford, Conn., and Lauren, Anthony, Sean and Tracey Bell all of Wilmington, and Michael and Gregg Sturgis of Newark; six great-grandchildren, Avery and Aliva Wood of Texas, Noah and Cadence Nichols of Connecticut, Colten Sturgis of Smyrna and Riley Mercante of Wilmington.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
