Baseball:
On Wednesday, the Washington Nationals beat the Houston Astros in game seven to win their first world championship as the Nationals franchise. The last time a team from Washington won the World Series was in 1924 as the Washington Senators.
One of the most famous pitchers ever in baseball was Walter Johnson. He was one of the key players for the Washington Senators and their best pitcher on that 1924 team. That was a very long time ago! This series was also historical in the fact that this was the first time the road team won every game in the 116 year history of the World Series. Pretty cool statistics and it was a really fun series to watch. It's always good when it goes all the way to Game 7.
Football:
The Philadelphia Eagles actually stepped up and played a decent game against the Buffalo Bills last weekend. They beat the Bills by 20 points in rough weather conditions. The running game was of vital importance for the Eagles.
The Bills looked good until late in the second quarter. That's when the game turned around. Buffalo had the ball deep in their own territory, and their young quarterback, Josh Allen, fumbled the ball, giving it back to the Eagles. The Eagles took advantage of the fumble and went on to score the go-ahead touchdown. From that point on, the game was theirs to win.
This week, the Eagles play the Chicago Bears at home. This game is important for them to win in order to stay tied for first place in the division with Dallas. Keeping this place will be helpful, since the Eagles have their bye week the following week.
Golf:
Even I was surprised to see Tiger Woods win in his first tournament of the new season last week at the Zozo Championship in Japan. This is the first-ever PGA tour-sanctioned event in Japan. The reason I was so surprised was the fact that, for the second half of this past golf season, Tiger was playing hurt.
Turns out he actually was injured and has had another knee surgery. It was telling how limber he seemed and with the speed of his stride when walking from hole to hole. He will not be winning like the days of old anymore, but he seems to be in good enough health to continue to be the media's favorite. No pressure.
