A no-go for the Tide

A no-go for the Tide

For the first time in the six-year history of the college football playoffs, Alabama does not have a chance to make it into the playoffs during championship week. Last week, they lost to Auburn in an extremely exciting, high-scoring game. I actually like it when new teams get a chance to go all the way.

The winner of the LSU/Georgia SEC championship game will definitely make it into the playoffs, as well as defending champion Clemson, if they win the ACC championship. Ohio State, ranked number one, will also get in if they win the Big Ten Championship against Wisconsin. All of this will be determined Saturday. These games are always fun to follow.

The Eagles don’t deserve to make the playoffs after losing last Sunday to the Miami Dolphins 28-26. For the entire season, the team has played very few good games on both sides of the ball. I guess you could say they did well against Green Bay, but that is the ONLY game that was good all the way to the end.

The defense did not play well during the second half of the Miami game, giving no support to a pretty good performance by the offense. It was hard to even watch that second half.

The next game is against the New York Giants on Monday night football. Wouldn't it be nice if they actually play like a cohesive team?

In surprising baseball news, the Philadelphia Phillies made the first big move of the winter by acquiring Zack Wheeler. He was the number 3 starting pitcher in the rotation for the New York Mets. The Phillies signed a five-year contract with Wheeler, who seems very capable and should provide some support for Aaron Nola.

I think the next step for the Phillies is to get a third baseman. We will see as we head into Christmas. Maybe there will a big free agent present under the Phillies fans' tree.
