Tanger Outlets puts up Trees of Hope Nov. 24

Families of breast cancer patients will be beneficiaries
November 22, 2011

The Tanger Outlet Center of Rehoboth Beach will be hosting its Tanger Trees of Hope program again this year, the program that provides holiday gifts to local families in need.

The Tanger Outlet Center will display three small pink holiday trees, and each tree will have ornaments with specific items written on them along with the age and gender of the intended recipient. The trees will be displayed from Thursday, Nov. 24 until Monday, Dec. 20.

The public is invited to choose ornaments from the tree, purchase the items indicated on the ornament, and then return the unwrapped item to Shopper Services at Tanger Seaside. As a token of Tanger’s appreciation, everyone who participates in the Tanger Trees of Hope program will receive a voucher for a free 2012 Tanger coupon book. All items will be wrapped by volunteers from the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and distributed to families in the community that are in financial need this season because of a breast cancer diagnosis.

The Tanger Trees of Hope program is a continuation of the partnership between the Tanger Outlet Center of Rehoboth Beach and the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. “Many people are aware of Tanger’s popular PINK Card campaign in September and October that raises money for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition,” said Amy Norgate, general manager of the Tanger Outlet Center in Rehoboth Beach.  “Those funds are used each year to expand programs in Delaware which increase awareness of breast cancer, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms, and provide support and resources to women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.”

“Tanger Outlet Center wants to keep that momentum going through the holiday season,” Norgate continued. “We want to remind everyone that breast cancer doesn’t take a holiday. There are families in our own communities that have been financially sidetracked by a breast cancer diagnosis, and the Tanger Trees of Hope are a way for those families to receive a little help this season.”

“This is truly a team effort,” Cheryl Doucette, coalition program manager said. “From the donations of gifts to the wrapping and delivering, many hands make this happen each year. We are happy to be able to make many Christmas wishes come true for breast cancer survivors and their children this year. Together, we can truly make a difference.” Last year the Tanger Trees of Hope program collected 104 gifts for families in need.

The trees will be displayed inside the Tanger Shopper Services centers at Tanger Midway and Tanger Seaside, and inside the Nike Factory Store located at Tanger Bayside.
