Super Bowl weekend is here

January 31, 2020

I hope this week's Super Bowl game is much more entertaining than last year’s game between New England and the L. A. Rams. Last year‘s game was one of the lowest scoring games in Super Bowl history and was pretty much a total bore.

I expect this year's game, between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, to be pretty evenly-matched and, hopefully, exciting. These are two extremely talented teams. I think you know that I will be cheering for the Chiefs to win mostly because of their coach Andy Reid and his legacy. Go Chiefs!

As we go into Super Bowl weekend, you will also be able to follow the finals of the Australian Open tennis tournament. Novak Djokovic is set to win the men’s side because because Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer lost and are out of the tournament already. On the women’s side, there's been a bit of disappointment with both Venus and Serena Williams losing early in the tournament as well.

But there is still an American in the women’s final, Sofia Kenin. This young player has come out of nowhere. She is only 21, and is really fun to watch. I hope she can sustain this level of play going into the finals, where she will come up against the 2016 French Open champion, Garbina Muguruza from Spain. Although Sofia will be the clear underdog, it should be a great final to watch.

This week was rocked, not just in the sports world, but for anyone, with the terrible news of the helicopter crash that took nine people's lives. It's been a week of great Kobe Bryant stories and reflections in the effort to help everyone deal with this awful tragedy. He was one of best Los Angeles Lakers players ever. His legacy will definitely carry on.

See you on the sidelines!
