Trio Valtorna to perform Feb. 15

Coastal Concerts will host a performance by Trio Valtorna at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, in the fellowship hall of Bethel United Methodist Church, 4th and Market streets, Lewes.

The concert will be preceded by a 1 p.m. Performance Insights presentation by Lani Spahr, professional oboist, internationally acclaimed audio restoration engineer and Coastal Concerts board member.

Formed in 2011, the trio includes renowned violinist Ida Kavafian, French horn player extraordinaire David Jolley, and pianist Gilles Vonsattel.

The Feb. 15 concert program includes: Beethoven’s “Violin Sonata No. 3 in E-flat Major, Op.12,” Harbison’s “Twilight Music for Horn, Violin and Piano” (1985), and Brahms’ “Trio in E-flat Major for Horn, Violin and Piano, Op. 40.”

Internationally acclaimed as a violist as well as a violinist, the versatile Ida Kavafian is an artist-member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and former violinist of the Beaux Arts Trio. She is a recipient of the coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant. She also performs as a soloist and in recital with her sister, violinist Ani Kavafian.

Swiss-born Gilles Vonsattel is also a recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, and winner of the Naumburg and Geneva competitions as well as the 2016 Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award. He has in recent years made his debuts with major symphony orchestras across the United States and Europe while performing recitals and chamber music in prominent venues and major festivals around the world.

David Jolley has thrilled audiences throughout the world while sustaining an active performance career. He has frequently collaborated with major chamber music groups such as the Guarneri Quartet, the American String Quartet, the Beaux Arts Trio, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, among others.
